Automotive technology instructor and technician Lori Johnson founded Ladies, Start Your Engines in 2006 to educate women and girls about their vehicles in an engaging, low-stress environment that encourages questions, explanations and comprehension. LSYE classes offer an interactive automotive maintenance and knowledge experience, designed FOR women BY one of the industry’s leading female automotive experts.

Who is Lori Johnson?

As an automotive industry professional for over 30 years, Lori’s experience spans all back-end service operations. After working in dealerships and shops as a technician, a service writer, and a service manager, Lori decided to share her knowledge as an automotive instructor at the college level as well as by editing Chilton automotive repair manuals and contributing to ASE study guides.

Dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion, Lori’s path led her to speaking engagements at various conferences on the topic of women in non-traditional careers. She founded Ladies Start Your Engines in order to help women acquire knowledge about their vehicle that allows them to become an educated, well-informed consumer. Through her classes, Lori offers an opportunity for ladies to learn about their vehicles in a non-threatening learning environment.

Enhancing participants’ Car Care Confidence by providing demonstrations and hands-on exposure to simple vehicle maintenance checks, LSYE classes empower women with automotive knowledge that enables them to effectively communicate their car care needs, understand the jargon mechanics use, make informed choices about their automotive needs, and even perform light automotive maintenance on her own.
